Important: Apply ECS Card is an independent support service. We do not represent ECS or JIB and we do not issue the official ECS Maintenance Electrician Gold Card. Our £79 fee is for application support only – any ECS card or test fees are separate.

Many ECS Gold Card applications are processed in around 10–15 working days after the official body receives a complete and correct application. Processing times and decisions are controlled by ECS and may change depending on their workload and current rules.

The £79 fee is for Apply ECS Card support only. Official ECS card fees, HS&E tests and any training costs are separate and paid directly to the relevant providers.

Typical Eligibility Requirements

  • Holds a suitable Level 3 qualification (for example NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in an electrical or maintenance discipline, or another qualification accepted by the scheme).
  • Solid practical experience carrying out maintenance, testing, fault-finding and repair of electrical installations or equipment.
  • Valid ECS Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment or another accepted health & safety qualification.
  • Normally several years in a maintenance electrician role, with responsibility for safe isolation and remedial work.
  • Valid proof of identity (for example Passport or UK Driving Licence).

The official ECS scheme will always make the final decision on whether your qualifications and experience meet their current maintenance electrician criteria.

Example Documents You May Need

  • Completed ECS application form with your personal and employment details.
  • Certificates for NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or other accepted maintenance/electrotechnical qualifications.
  • Evidence of a valid ECS Health, Safety & Environmental Assessment or recognised equivalent.
  • One recent passport-style photograph that meets card scheme requirements.
  • Proof of ID (Passport/Driving Licence) and, where requested, proof of UK address.

Training & Upskilling

If you still need to achieve a recognised Level 3 qualification or update your wiring regulations and testing knowledge, there are many approved UK training providers who offer electrical maintenance, inspection and testing courses, plus ECS Health & Safety assessments. We can point you towards the type of training that is normally looked for, but you will choose and book any courses directly with the provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does your Maintenance Electrician Gold Card support service cost?

Our support fee is £79. This covers our help with understanding the requirements, checking your details for obvious issues and guiding you through the submission steps. Any official ECS card, test or training fees are separate and are paid directly to the relevant organisations.

How long is the Maintenance Electrician Gold Card usually valid for?

Many ECS Gold Cards are normally valid for up to three years. Always check the expiry date printed on your own card and follow the latest ECS renewal rules, as scheme requirements can change over time.

What type of work is this card generally linked to?

It is generally linked to roles involving maintenance, testing, fault-finding and repair of existing electrical installations or equipment on industrial, commercial or construction sites, rather than new build installation work only.

Do you guarantee that ECS will approve my Gold Card application?

No. We cannot guarantee approval because only ECS can decide if you meet their current criteria and grading rules. Our role is to help you prepare a clear and complete application, but the final decision is always made by the official scheme.
