ECS-style assessment for Audio Visual technicians working on commercial, corporate, live events and integrated AV projects across the UK.
AV Technician Test – Professional audio visual competence assessment.
The AV Technician Test is designed for audio visual technicians who install, commission and support AV systems in offices, meeting rooms, education, hospitality and live event spaces. The assessment checks your understanding of modern AV hardware, signal flow, basic networking, control systems and safe working practices to UK expectations.
A successful result provides independent evidence of your competence as an AV technician and can be used to support site access, employer requirements and certain ECS/AV technician card routes where accepted.
Questions on displays, projectors, switchers, microphones, amplifiers, DSPs, control processors and typical AV signal types used in modern installations.
Assessment of bracket fixing, cable routing, termination quality, labelling, rack layout and general best practice for commercial AV work.
Scenario-based questions covering signal path checks, common audio and video faults, networking basics and client-facing fault diagnosis.
Evaluation of safe lifting, work at height, electrical safety awareness and UK site rules for AV technicians.
The fee includes your AV Technician Test booking, assessment and official result confirmation.
Test dates are usually available within 2–4 weeks, depending on UK test-centre availability.
Shows clients and employers that your AV skills have been independently assessed against UK expectations.
Supports applications for permanent roles, freelance work and higher-value projects with AV integrators.
Encourages work practices that align with UK safety, quality and operational standards on site.
Strengthens your CV and helps you stand out when bidding for roles or project-based AV work.
The test includes commercial display systems, projection, meeting-room AV, digital signage, sound reinforcement, video conferencing, basic control systems and integrated AV solutions. You’ll also see questions on connectivity, cabling and simple networked AV concepts used in modern installations.
Test centres normally provide all equipment needed for the assessment. Some technicians prefer to bring their own basic hand tools, but this is usually optional. The focus is on how you use standard AV equipment safely and correctly, not on owning specific tools.
At least 1–2 years of hands-on AV experience, or completion of an AV technology course, is recommended. You should be comfortable with basic audio/video principles, cable termination, mounting equipment and tracing signal paths through a typical AV system.
Passing the AV Technician Test demonstrates that you can work to a recognised standard, which many employers and clients value. It can help you secure better roles, higher day rates, and access to more complex projects, and it gives extra confidence to facilities teams, event organisers and AV integrators who rely on your skills.
